Job Description:

This resource is as a key player in the maturing and oversight of IS Pharmacy’s clinical and Pharmacological build and management of medications. This role will be responsible to oversee the new build, modifications, and evaluate requests from the CCRC’s and OCC’s. They will be the SME for the IS Pharmacy team.

Accordingly, the Clinical Pharmacist may assist with the build and management of medications and in some cases Pharmacy automation, by partnering with Information Services (IS) application owners, Corporate Pharmacy Services and Site Pharmacy teams to determine the best way to implement and optimize current and new builds.  The Pharmacist will be responsible for delivering routine management metrics to the Corporate and Site Pharmacy teams, as well as conducting ad hoc analysis to support various initiatives.  Functions that could be needed are price algorithms, prescriber information, and metrics around EPCS. The Pharmacist will assist with: assessing operations and making recommendations to leadership; providing translations, analyses and interpretations of information; and assisting with project management for the various enterprise initiatives.

More specifically, analysis conducted will include the following:

  • Continued EHR and retail pharmacy systems optimization
  • Monitoring CDM Code Correct adds/changes for pharmacy items
  • New requests for Pharmacist Documentation
  • New report requests and the need to provide information in a consistent enterprise-wide format
  • Obtaining Retail Pharmacy reports as needed for Corporate Pharmacy
  • Post-pilot analysis to assess need to pursue pharmacy technology
  • Provide input on new medication requests

The Clinical Pharmacist will also assist with the following:

  • Implementation of new pharmacy technology/innovations
  • Managing and coordinating reports from Data Mart and Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • Identifying pharmacy needs regarding other future areas of growth
  • Supporting standardized Delivery of Care, as well as other key strategic objectives
  • Implementing and monitoring formulary changes
  • Monitoring non-formulary usage
  • Preparing for future enterprise expansion
  • Monitoring the Pharmacy Chargemaster configuration to assure standardization
  • Other ad hoc activities as needed

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide Pharmacist input and Support to the Formulary & Therapeutics Committee, Pricing Committee, Corporate Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Hospital Executive Team, Clinical Informatics Council and Corporate/Hospital Boards.
  • Review, build, and maintain new medications. Provide input for Formulary changes, Chemo OS changes, and other clinical decisions around dispensing and/or prescribing medications
  • Maintain pharmacy reports as they pertain to the facilities and/or leadership.
  • Assist with project management of pharmacy initiatives.  Work with Pharmacy site resources, Informatics, and others to execute planned initiatives
  • Assist with maintaining pharmacy Code Correct request for item changes.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy automation and EHR experience required (Allscripts SCM preferred)
  • Graduation from an accredited ACPE College of Pharmacy, with current active license in good standing in state of residence
  • Must have strong analytical skills, and reporting experience to key business users.
  • Must have management communication and reporting experience, including conducting personal analysis and providing recommendations to management.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Must have experience working with internal customers in a reporting role and developing business requirements. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required, and Access & PowerPoint are a plus.
  • Must have experience working with IS on business requirements for performance management tools (e.g., scorecards, dashboards).
  • Evidence of continuing education that is directly related to the job specification.
  • Familiarity with "Lean" processes is preferred, A-3 Training and Green Belt extremely beneficial.
  • Electronic Pharmacy systems familiarity a plus (Hospital and Retail).
  • Knowledge of IS project lifecycle a plus.
