Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Software Technology Leader and a true Builder to join our team of a newly formed venture with aims at changing the way patients deal with a Cancer diagnosis. We are a HealthTech Startup with Series B/C level of funding (secured!) and we are building a technology platform that will connect oncology ecosystem participants (healthcare providers, individual oncologists, precision medicine, virtual services providers, etc. ) in one place to make a step change in experience for cancer patients and their families. We are inspired by bringing technology and innovation beyond clicks, ads, and cardboard boxes. We want to change the world by changing the life of each patient.

What is important for us?

You should be comfortable working in a virtual team setting environment. Initially we will have a small core team augmented by contracted subject matter experts in user experience design, software development, medicine, and consumer behavior. While this is a leadership position you will be expected to be as much hands on as well as set the technical agenda. We are all about small batch sizes, regularly deploying code to production environments, and immediately adjusting to customer feedback. Your background should include experience building responsive web applications using a modern framework like AngularJS or React, developing core technologies like a recommendation engine to match customer journeys in a common language like Python, Java, or C#, data-driven personalization using a sophisticated database, and implementing third-party solutions such as a Twillio (i.e., Telehealth). The ability to translate high-level technical requirements into executable project plans is essential. Previous experience in the world of healthcare is preferred but not required. Most importantly we are looking for a Leader who is ready to join our startup-minded team of professionals to truly change healthcare. We are a startup, however, we are well resourced and have access to best of breed technologies such as AWS. We are here to build the next Unicorn. Lots of infrastructure and DevOps chores, healthcare insurance and 401k needs have been already taken care of to let us focus on Building the Product.

About us.

There are almost 2 million newly diagnosed Cancer patients and almost 20 million living in Survivorship in the US. Their treatment is complex, and needs are extremely personalized. Treatment takes months (if not years), costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, and very often is not centered around the patient. We want to change it and we have all the knowledge and assets in place to do that. We are building a digital platform supported by a network of partners to fix this. We will provide users with information, support, and will match patients and caregivers with a network of providers, virtual services, and critical items in their lives. We will navigate and handhold patients throughout their journey. Our goal will always be to create the best patient experience by using data, the experience of Cancer Treatment Centers of America and our partners, and the whole ecosystem of cancer services and providers to let patients and caregivers focus only on getting well! We are a team of enthusiasts that combine experience from established healthcare companies (like United Healthcare, Optum, Imprivata), technology innovators (like Amazon Marketplace, AWS, WebMD, Doximity), and years of CTCA and broader healthcare knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a small development team composed of software developers (all work from home), on-shore contractors, and a contracted development team in Eastern Europe.
  • Builds a high-volume healthcare, web-based, application targeting oncology hosted entirely in AWS.
  • Implements a fast-paced agile software development practice based on DevOps (no dedicated IT or QA functions).
  • Recruits, mentors, and develops a high-performing development team.

Relevant Technology

  • Previous hands on experience with React or AngularJS
  • Previous hands on experience as a developer with: Java, Python, or C#
  • Current hands-on expertise with AWS ideally implemented via Terraform

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expert-level knowledge of DevOps practices and demonstrated commitment to its implementation.
  • Previous experience leading a software development team that works in one-week sprints.
  • Experience working on a small team in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience working with a commercial design team on a visually intensive (B-to-C) website where assessing and reacting to consumer feedback (i.e., AB testing).
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare, protecting patient privacy, HIPAA and key standards such as HL7 / FHIR is desirable.
  • Experience leading remote teams - including those out-side of the United States is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in healthcare development is important.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering or at least five years working as a professional software developer is an absolute requirement. MBA is desirable.
  • 5-7 years’ experience working in a leadership capacity in an organization working with patient health records (i.e., PHI data) is required.
