Job Overview

The Clinical Informatics Analyst provides expertise and support in the education, development and enhancement of the electronic health record (EHR) related to clinical practice and documentation regulations of the legal medical record. Specific skills include the development and deployment of pertinent role-based training to end users, coaching and thought leadership to ensure that end users (including physicians, nurses and staff members) can effectively use the technology and processes established by CTCA.  Knowledge of the legal medical record and documentation requirements for coding and billing support is a necessary foundation for success in this position.  Successful fulfillment of the role demonstrates commitment to achieve goals and deliverables through leadership and relationship building at across CTCA, to improve patient care through the use of the EHR . 

Job Accountabilities

  • Works with all clinical stakeholders to ensure the clinical workflow is managed efficiently by the clinical systems that are being utilized for patient care.  Assists with mapping process models and designing of clinical workflow processes, and assists in identifying needs for process changes, training needs or system change requests. 30 %
  • Provides the initial training and on-going education of clinical users on features, operation, and usage of clinical software systems; learning sessions can be provided in one on one, classroom style and independent learning modules format.  Assesses and identifies Adult Learning difficulties and modifies teaching methods to accommodate the Adult Learner, evidenced by a successful Adult Learner/Stakeholder who is able to use the EHR system effectively with all documentation accomplished correctly and in a timely manner.  Assists with the development of a variety of Educational Activities (conferences, special projects, film previews, etc), to facilitate meeting the educational needs of hospital-wide staff in their ability to use the EHR system effectively. 30 %
  • Assists with the development of standardized training materials used to facilitate training for all CTCA clinicians.  Provides recommendations for updates to training and training materials based on changes in workflow, regulatory requirements, or changes to system functionality. 10 %
  • Schedules and participates in daily rounding and monthly shadowing with a variety of clinical stakeholders including but not limited to physicians, nursing, respiratory therapy, rehab to build relationships while identifying areas of improvement to workflow and application functionality. Meets with clinical support analysts on a monthly basis to determine areas for improvement in training. 20 %
  • Develops requirements for system changes based on the analysis completed with clinical workflows and system function.  Requirements should be reviewed and approved via all sites to ensure "OneCTCA" processes and implementations.  Completes user acceptance testing for all enhancements and new EHR implementations, including but not limited to system upgrades, and new system modules. 10 %

Education/Experience Level

  • Must be licensed clinical user , registered nurse preferred.
  • BS/BA in preferred.
  • 3 + years hospital or clinical area experience.
  • 1-2  years electronic health care implementation expertise
  • 1-2 years clinical informatics experience is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Effective written, oral, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • Needs to have a solid understanding of appropriate clinical workflows, ability to map clinical workflow to clinical application system functionality.
  • Ability to provide education to Adult learners in a manner that is appropriate and targeted to the learners needs.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
