The Director for Laboratory Research Protections at the City of Hope oversees compliance with federal and state regulations for research involving various materials and techniques. They prepare accreditation applications and collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Research Protections. Their responsibilities include leading a team to facilitate research studies through regulatory committees and coordinating with various departments and committees involved in research oversight.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Personnel Management: Build relationships with internal stakeholders, retain and develop committee managers and analysts, and navigate institutional culture for change.
  • Research Review and Oversight: Ensure cutting-edge processes for reviewing research, advise on federal and state regulations, and initiate policies for compliance.
  • Committee Management: Direct procedures, ensure diverse membership, clarify regulatory requirements, and evaluate participation.
  • Non-compliance Management: Address non-compliance issues by assembling executive committees, summarizing discussions, and developing strategies.
  • Assurance Maintenance: Negotiate institutional assurances with OLAW and prepare for AAALAC re-accreditation.
  • External Engagement: Serve as liaison with federal and state agencies, submit required reports, and participate in regulatory visits and audits.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Master’s degree in Health Care Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7 years leading institutional animal care and use committees.
  • 5 years managing animal or clinical research.
  • Proficient in USDA regulations, PHS Policy, and AAALAC accreditation.
  • Administrative expertise in stem cells, DNA materials, chemical hazards, infectious hazards, radioactive materials, and radiation producing machines.
  • Familiarity with federal and California regulations on human subjects research.
